PUTRAJAYA ROUNDABOUT - WORLD'S LARGEST ROUNDABOUT

Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah or Putrajaya Roundabout is the main thoroughfare or roundabout in Putrajaya, Malaysia. It is world's largest roundabout with a diameter of 2.2 miles. It was named after Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah of Selangor, the eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

NOTE:
The government of Trinidad and Tobago has disputed the Putrajaya Roundabout's title, using its Facebook page to boost the claim of Queen's Park Savannah. This park, in the center of the Trinidadian capital of Port-of-Spain, is also surrounded by a perimeter road, which was made one-way in the late 1970s to alleviate rush hour traffic. The park's 2.3-mile circumference is indeed a little longer than the Putrajaya Roundabout, but there's one problem: The Caribbean "traffic circle" isn't anything like a circle. In fact, to do a full loop, you'd have to turn no fewer than five 90-degree corners.

COLOR	MEANING
White	For lane markings or to mark the right pavement edge.
Yellow or Orange	These separate traffic moving in opposite directions, or mark the left pavement edge on one-way roadways.
Blue	Usually place in the center of the roadway to mark the location of fire hydrants on the shoulder or at the curb.
Green	Usually used to indicate that emergency vehicles can open gates to enter a gated community.
Red	Usually indicate areas that are closed to traffic
White and Red Yellow and Red	White or Yellow for normal use in one direction, and red to indicate “do not enter” or “wrong way” in the other direction.
Red-Clear	Primarily used to warn motorists they are going the wrong way; most people have never seen these because they show clear when approached in the correct direction, and only appear red to wrong-way drivers.
White and Black	White for marking lane restrictions (such as HOV diamond) in one direction on a roadway that has ‘reversible’ traffic flow, and black in the other direction when the markings do not apply.

THE CHINA NATIONAL HIGHWAY 110 TRAFFIC JAM

The China National Highway 110 traffic jam was a recurring massive traffic jam that began to form on August 14, 2010, mostly on China National Highway 110 (G110) and Beijing–Tibet expressway (G6), in Hebei and Inner Mongolia. The traffic jam slowed down thousands of vehicles for more than 60 miles and lasted for two weeks. Many drivers were able to move their vehicles only 0.6 mi per day, and some drivers reported being stuck in the traffic jam for five days.

The cause of the traffic jam was reported to be a spike in traffic by heavy trucks heading to Beijing, along with National Highway 110's maintenance work that began five days later. The road construction which reduced the road capacity by 50% contributed heavily to the traffic jam and was not due to be completed until mid-September. Police reported that minor breakdowns and accidents were compounding the problem. The traffic volume at the time of the incident was 60% more than the design capacity.
