THE TIME THAT PEPSICO WAS THE SIXTH MOST POWERFUL MILITARY IN THE WORLD

Pepsi was first introduced to the Russian people in the late 1950s.

In 1972, the Soviet Union wanted to strike a deal that would bring Pepsi products to their country permanently. However, there was an issue of how they would pay for it, as their currency was not accepted throughout the world. A solution was eventually reached when vodka* was used as the medium of exchange.

In the late 1980s, Russia’s initial agreement to import Pepsi into the country was set to expire, and vodka wasn’t going to cover the cost of renewing the agreement.

This time the Russians offered to trade Pepsi a fleet of subs and boats in exchange for Pepsi products. The new agreement included; 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate and a destroyer. The combined fleet was traded for $3 billion worth of Pepsi products.

The historical exchange caused Pepsi to become the 6th most powerful military in the world.

Shortly after taking ownership of the naval vessels, Pepsi sold the fleet to a Swedish company for scrap recycling.

*Bonus Fact: As a result of the 1922 trade deal, Pepsi became the sole distributor of Stolichnaya Vodka in the U.S. until 1989.

WHITECLAY, NEBRASKA

Whiteclay is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Sheridan County, Nebraska. The population was 14 at the time of the 2000 census.

In 2010, its four beer stores sold an estimated 4.9 million 12-ounce cans of beer, an average of over 13,000 cans per day, for gross sales of $3,000,000.

Whiteclay is located two miles from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where alcohol consumption and possession is prohibited.

In 2017, the four liquor stores lost their licenses, and the town ceased to be the main supplier of alcohol to the reservation.

From a 2001 interview of Boggs’ teammate Brian Rose by sportswriter David Laurila and referenced by NBC sportswriter Craig Calcaterra on 1/26/15. “I was sitting next to him on a plane and a flight attendant came by and gave him a case of beer”, said Rose. “He slid it under the seat and I was like, ‘What’s up with that”. We only have an hour flight”. He said, “That’s mine’ The whole flight, we were just shooting the shit, and he went one beer after the other. I said to him, ‘I’m impressed with the way you hit, but I’m more impressed right now’. He goes, ‘Yeah, beer doesn’t affect me. I don’t get drunk unless I’ve had at least a case and a half’. I don’t think he even went to the bathroom”.”

WADE BOGGS – 107 BEERS ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT

Esquire web post on January 13, 2015 of ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption host Tony Kornheiser interviewing Boggs and asking him if it is true that he once consumed 64 beers on a cross country flight from Boston to L.A. Boggs denies that he drank 64 beers and refused to confirm that is was any specific number. He finally admits to “drinking a few Miller Lites”. From the same Esquire post - former relief pitcher Jeff Nelson said that Boggs absolutely would drink 50 or 60 beers on a cross-country flight, explaining that the tally would begin in the locker room before carrying over to the drive to the airport, the tarmac, layovers, and any other chance he got as the team was making their way from coast to coast. The Esquire post also references a guest appearance Boggs made on a TV. show called; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The apparent plot of the episode is that the regulars on the show decide they are going to try and match Boggs drinking of 64 beers on a cross country flight. (Boggs appears in the show as a hallucination when the characters in the show get drunk). The “Esquire” web post includes a clip of Charlie Day, the star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia appearing on the “Jimmy Fallon Show” Day claims that the stories about Boggs drinking prowess are true, and that Boggs even told him the actual number of beers he drank on a cross-country flight, the number he so smugly refused to divulge to Kornheiser, was 107. (Day briefly mentions that the flight included a layover, so the duration of the flight is unknown).

ANDRE THE GIANT – 156 16 OZ BEERS IN ONE SITTING

Professional wrestler Mike Graham being interviewed on an episode of WWE’s Legends of Wrestling said that he saw Andre the Giant drink 156 16 ounce beers in one sitting. This was confirmed by professional wrestler Dusty Rhodes. (Wikipedia)

WADE BOGGS – OVER 100 BEERS IN A DAY

Esquire web post on June 24, 2015 contains a video from “TMZ Sports” of a reporter stopping Boggs on his way to an old-timers game and asking him about his beer drinking. The reporter says; “honestly, what’s the most beers you have drank in a day?” Boggs responds that it is over 100. The reporter goes on to ask how he can do that, and Boggs responds that he has a hollow leg.

  

ANDRE THE GIANT -127 BEERS IN A BAR IN READING, PA

The Fabulous Moolah (professional lady wrestler) wrote in her autobiography that Andre drank 127 beers in a bar in Reading, PA and later passed out in the lobby. The staff could not move him and had to leave him there until he awoke.(Wikipedia)
