LINE 3 (CHONGQING RAIL TRANSIT)

CRT Line 3 (and the branch line branded as Airport Line) runs from north to south, linking the districts separated by Chongqing’s two main rivers, the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. At a total distance of 40.7 miles, CRT Line 3 is the longest single monorail in the world by track length. Line 3 is also the world’s busiest monorail line with a daily ridership of over 675,000 passengers per day.

WUHAN, CHINA METRO – LINE 1

The Wuhan Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Wuhan, operated by the Wuhan Metro Co., Ltd. Line 1 began operation on July 28, 2004 with the completion of a ten-station long elevated line between Huangpu Road and Zongguan. At 23.44 miles in length, Line 1 is the longest continuous metro viaduct* in the world. *A viaduct is a bridge composed of several small spans for crossing a valley, dry or wetland, or forming an overpass or flyover.

GASOLINE STATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES, 1972-2019

In 1972 there were nearly 290,000 public gasoline stations serving 106 million vehicles nationwide. The number of public gasoline stations declined throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. By 1990 there were 174,000 public gasoline stations serving 179 million vehicles nationwide. In 2019 there are only 142,000 stations serving more than 276 million vehicles. According to a Lundberg Survey, gasoline gallons dispensed per station is at a record high.

MILLENNIUM PARK BUS DEPOT

The Millennium Park Bus Depot located in Delhi, India is the largest bus depot in the world. Constructed primarily by the city’s Public Works Department, the depot was inaugurated on September 17, 2010. The depot occupies an area of 60 acres and has the capacity to park up to 1,000 buses at a time under shed. The depot contains numerous features and facilities, including; ·         8 washing pits ·         5 parking centers ·         4 underground water tanks for washing buses ·         7 dormitories capable of holding 500 people ·         2 CNG stations (DT buses run on CNG) utilized by 10 filling pumps The Millennium Park Bus Depot was initially planned as a temporary structure for the Commonwealth Games. However, once the Games concluded, both the Delhi government and DTC refused to proceed with demolition measures for the depot. Although the Delhi Transportation Corporation (DTC) told the Delhi High Court that it would vacate the millennium depot site by October 31, 2014, your humble blogger cannot find definitive information as to whether or not the bus depot is still in operation. I checked the DTC website and found that “Millennium Park Depot Complex” is on the list of DTC properties. YouTube video was posted in 2017, which is well after the date that the property was to be vacated.

WECX 801 – WOLRLD’S LARGEST RAILROAD CAR (SCHNABEL CAR)

A Schnabel car or Schnabel wagon is a specialized type of railroad freight car. It is designed to carry heavy and oversized loads in such a way that the load makes up part of the car. The largest Schnabel car in public railroads operation, reporting number WECX 801, was completed in 2012 by Kasgro Railcar of New Castle, PA, for Westinghouse Nuclear and is used in North America primarily to transport reactor containment vessels. It has 36 axles (18 for each half). Its tare (unloaded) weight is 362.5 tons and has a load limit of 923.4 tons. When empty, WECX 802 measures 231 feet long. For comparison, a conventional boxcar currently operating on North American railroads has a single two-axle truck at each end of the care, measures 50 to 89 feet long and has a capacity of 64 to 95 tons. The word Schnabel is from German Tragschnabelwagen, meaning “carrying-beak-wagon”, because of the usually tapered shape of the lifting arms, resembling a bird’s beak.

BYD DELIVERING THE WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC BUS FLEET

BYD Co Ltd (Build Your Dreams) is a Chinese manufacturer of automobiles, battery-powered bicycles, buses, forklifts, rechargeable batteries and trucks. The city of Shenzhen has become the first city to electrify 100 percent of its public buses – that is a total of 16,539 buses! According to the latest reports, worldwide the number of electric buses increased in 2018 by 32 percent to about 425,000. Of those, 421,000, a share of 99 percent are in China. Europe has around 2,250 electric buses and the U.S. a meager 300. Video below is drone footage of largest ever delivery of electric buses to the city of Shenzhen at the end of 2015.

NEW CAR DEALERSHIPS

In 2016, there were 4,816 fewer new car dealerships than there were in 2005. The number of persons employed at new car dealerships declined from 2005 to 2012, but the total number employed in 2016 has almost returned to the 2005 level. The average number of persons employed at new car dealerships has increased from 44 in 2015 to 54 in 2016, and average compensation per employee over that same period has increased by 24.06%.

WORLD'S LARGEST TRUCKSTOP

Iowa 80, located along Interstate 80 at exit 284 in Walcott, Iowa, is the world's largest Truckstop. Set on a 220-acre plot of land, it is four times larger than the average Truckstop. Iowa 80 receives 5,000 visitors daily, and features a 67,000 square foot main building, parking for 900 trucks, and 15 diesel fuel pumps. Four-hundred fifty employees staff the megaplex.

SHORTEST REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMERCIAL FLIGHT IN THE WORLD

The Loganair Westray (island) to Papa Westray (island) route in Orkney, Scotland is the shortest scheduled passenger flight in the world. Flights on this route are scheduled for one and a half minutes, and actual flying time is closer to one minute. The record for the fastest flight is 53 seconds. The route is flown by Loganair, a Scottish regional airline that serves Scotland's Highlands and islands. Flights between Westray Airport and Papa Westray Airport occur daily in both directions, except on Saturdays, when only flights from Westray to Papa Westray are available, and on Sunday, when only flights from Papa Westray to Westray are available. The total distance covered by the flights is 1.7 miles, which is about the same length as the runway at Edinburgh airport. Many students and their teachers take these flights to study the 60 archaeological sites on Papa Westray, making up the majority of passengers. Occasionally health professionals are needed to assist one of the island's 90 residents, and patients will also take the flight from Papa Westray to medical facilities when needed. The flight has also become popular among tourists.

LONGEST (ROUTE) TRAIN IN THE U.S.

At 2,728 miles in length, Amtrak’s Texas Eagle train service between Chicago and Los Angeles is the longest regularly scheduled train route in the U.S. Trains run daily between Chicago and San Antonio. Three days a week, the train operates as a section of the Sunset Limited. The westbound Texas Eagle joins the with the westbound Sunset Limited in San Antonio and continues to Los Angeles. The Texas Eagle makes 40 stops and has an average travel time between Chicago and Los Angeles of 68 hours and 45 minutes.
