CITY NAMES THAT ARE ALSO A STATE-NAME (PART 1)

The following list was compiled exclusively by your humble blogger using the USPS on-line zip code look-up. I put the name of the state in the city box and then clicked on every state in order to determine if there was a city with that name in that state. Accordingly, to make it on to the list, the state-named-city had to have a postal zip code. To the best of my knowledge, the following list is the only single listing of all city names that are the same as a state name to be found on the Internet. Only state-named-cities that exactly match a state name are on the list. For example, Kansas City, MO is not on the list because the city name is “Kansas City” and not just “Kansas”. Also, there can be no difference in the spelling of the name of the state-named-city. For example, there is an “Arkansaw, WI 54721, but it does not qualify to be on this list because it is not spelled the same as the state of Arkansas. Also, please note that New York City’s actual name is “The City of New York”, and therefore “New York, NY” is not on the list. Finally, there were some zip codes that had a state-named-city, but the zip code and corresponding state-named-city were assigned to a P.O. Box only. Since those state-named-city postal zip codes are not actual populated places they are not included in the following list.
