8 of the top 10 locations in the world where the
largest range of tides have been observed are in the Bay of Fundy, Nova
Scotia, Canada. Tides in this coastal zone reach a peak of around 50 feet. Twice
each day, 160 billion tons of seawater flow in and out of the Bay of Fundy –
more than the combined flow of the world’s freshwater rivers. The largest
mean range is found at Burntcoat Head, Minas Basin, in the Bay of Fundy. Tides
there have a mean range of 38.4 feet.
