APRIL - HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES AND MORE FOR THE CONTIGUOUS U.S.

It is definitely warming up across the contiguous U.S.

The warmest day of the month occurred on April 25, when the temperature reached 109 degrees at Death Valley, California.

The lowest high temperature in April was 89 degrees on April 1, at Thermal, California. April 1, was the only date that a temperature of less than 90 degrees was recorded. There were 11 days where the high temperature was in the nineties, with all other days recording a temperature between 100 and 109.

The average high temperature for April was 99.67 degrees, an almost 8 degree increase over the average high temperature in March.

Somewhat surprisingly, the coldest day was recorded late in the month when a temperature of -8 degrees was recorded at Placer Basin, Montana on April 29.

The highest low temperature in April was 19 degrees on April 9, at two locations; Flag Island, Minnesota and Mount Washington, New Hampshire. There were only 5 days during April that the low temperature was below zero.

The average low temperature for April was 7.33 degrees, a huge increase over the average low temperature of -17 degrees in March.

Once again, the greatest temperature differential between the low temperature and the high temperature occurred on the coldest day of the month. The -8 degrees on April 29, combined with a 101-degree temperature at Rio Grande Village, Texas to produce a temperature differential of 109 degrees.

The smallest temperature differential occurred on April 6. The low temperature of 14 degrees at Pikes Peak Summit, Colorado combined with the high temperature of 98 degrees at Falcon Lake, Texas to produce a temperature differential of 84 degrees.
