Lake Kauhako lies at the bottom of the Kauhako volcanic
crater located in Kalawao County, Hawaii (Moloka’i).
Lake Kauhako has the world’s greatest depth-to-surface
area ratio of any lake in the world and is the fourth-deepest lake in the
United States. Although the surface area is less than an acre, the lake’s
depth is 832 feet. For comparison, a football field covers one and one-third
acre.
