LAKE KAUHAKO – LARGEST DEPTH-TO-SURFACE-RATIO OF ANY LAKE IN THE WORLD

Lake Kauhako lies at the bottom of the Kauhako volcanic crater located in Kalawao County, Hawaii (Moloka’i).

Lake Kauhako has the world’s greatest depth-to-surface area ratio of any lake in the world and is the fourth-deepest lake in the United States. Although the surface area is less than an acre, the lake’s depth is 832 feet. For comparison, a football field covers one and one-third acre.
