On November 28, the media began reporting on an incident in which a mother claimed that a Southwest flight attendant mocked her daughter for having the name "Abcde". The story quickly spread through social media and the latest is that Southwest has issued a formal apology to the woman. Many people, me included, think that the mother is the one that should apologize for giving her daughter such a stupid name.
On November 29, I tweeted here that there were in fact 6 baby girls born in 2017 that were given the name "Abcde".
It turns out that another girl with the name "Abcde" made the news in 2014.
" The name garnered attention after a story about a seven-year-old girl with autism, called Abcde Santos (pronounced, "ab-suh-dee"), hit US news in 2014. Abcde of California was turned away by Santa Claus after waiting in line because he was scared of her service dog, a pit bull, CNN reported at the time.
Vocativ subsequently uncovered that there were 328 girls
in the US with this unusual moniker. 328!
And while the first five letters of the alphabet seemed
to reach their peak in 2009, with 32 babies called Abcde in that year alone,
the name was also bestowed on 16 babies in 2013".
The "Stuff.com" article also makes reference to another controversial name "KVIIIlyn", where the roman number VIII replaces the "ait".
