THE 49TH PARALLEL

The 49th parallel north roughly constitutes the U.S. - Canada border from Washington to Minnesota. The U.S. states east of Minnesota that border Canada are south of the 49th parallel

The only territory in the contiguous U.S. that is north of the 49th parallel is Angle Inlet, MN. (See my blog post dated November 12, 2018 The Northwest Angle)

The northernmost point in the state of Maine is Escourt Station, located at 47 degrees and 28 minutes north. Seattle, Washington is located at 47 degrees and 36 minutes north.

The city of Seattle, Washington is farther north than the entire state of Maine.
